INSPIRATION

Like many of you, I am candle obsessed! I have my favorite seasonal scents (anyone else in love with B&BW Pumpkin Apple and Marshmallow Fireside?), and pretty much any candle with apple in the name will probably be coming home with me.  Even if I’m not always burning my candles, I love having them sitting on my coffee table, end tables, my china hutch, the kitchen and bathroom counters and on my bedroom dresser.  They just blend in perfectly with the room’s decor and make my rooms look cozy, burning or not.  Because I live in Southern California sweater weather doesn’t always apply here.  I may not be able to wear big, comfy sweaters, but my candles can!  I love this simple pattern and how these sweater-like candle cozies have an extra cozy look.  So fun during these brisk winter months!

SOLID COLOR COZY

Ch 45

Row 1 – dc 1 in third chain from hook, dc 1 in every chain across, ch 2, turn (43)

Row 2 & 3 – dc 1 in each st across, ch 2, turn (43)

Row 4 – dc 1 in each st across (43)

Tie off and weave in tails

Wrap the cozy around the candle and hold the right side in place with your thumb (left photo).

Bring the left side of the cozy around and overlap the right end about 2″ (middle photo).  As you are wrapping the left side pull the cozy so it is nice and snug around the jar.

Keeping the cozy snug, safety pin the two ends together (right photo).

Slip the pinned cozy off the candle jar (left photo).

Arrange buttons where you want them placed on the cozy (middle photo).

Using either med 4 worsted weight yarn or thread, sew each button to the cozy making sure to sew through both layers of the cozy (right photo).

NOTE: I used yarn to sew my buttons, then once the buttons were knotted in place on the backside, I weaved in the loose ends.

To create the fringe on the right side edge of the cozy choose the same color yarn you used to make the cozy, then cut eight 6″ strands.

Turn the cozy upside down so the buttons are on the bottom, then thread your needle with the first strand of cut yarn.

Insert your threaded needle up through the left edge corner and pull about half of the yarn through (left photo).

Turn your needle going down through the same space your first inserted the needle (middle photo).

Pull the yarn down through the corner leaving enough yarn to form a loop (right photo).

Insert your finger and thumb just inside the yarn loop and pinch the two strands together (left photo).

Pull the two strands all the way through the loop (middle photo).

Pull the end of each strand to tighten and secure it to the cozy (right photo).

Repeat across the edge attaching all eight fringe strands (left photo).

To fray the strands use your nail or end of your needle to separate each thread per strand (middle photo).

Repeat until all of the strands have been frayed.

Cut and trim the frayed strands to the desired length you want (right photo).  My frayed strands are about 1″ wide.
